conventions of a psychological thriller

Conventions-

  • crime twist- tricks
  • end on a cliff hanger- not always a resolution
  • clever/ unusual plots
  • questions reality- even the audience aren't sure what to believe
  • unusual heroes- everyday characters
  • themes are often dark
  • memory/ dreams etc- focusses on one
  • characters have a fascination with death
  • typical narrative stricture not used
  • parallel edits are common
  • use of flashbacks
  • characters in conflict with their own mind
  • two characters preying on each others minds danger in mental level rather than physical level
  • mystery is important
